Consultant in Training Methodology
& Communication

training and communication skills course

The overall aim of this course is to give people who have good technical knowledge in their own professional area the skills that they need to pass on that knowledge to others through training.

Course content includes PowerPoint Presentations on:

  • Effective Communication
  • Communication and Persuasion
  • Knowing Your Audience
  • Active Learning
  • Group Dynamics
  • Group Leadership
  • Course Design
  • Message Design
  • PowerPoint Presentations

A student booklet has been prepared that gives students both a summary and an overview of course. The booklet also contains additional information and references for students that want to further their knowledge on any particular area of interest.

The course structure is that each day is somewhere between 6 to 8 hours. Each day about four, 30 minute PowerPoint presentations are given and each presentation is followed with practical exercises. A great deal of emphasis is placed on practical application of learning materials.

Training methods used are varied and active, incorporating Problem Based Learning, PDL techniques (borrowed from Psychodrama and Drama that have been specifically adapted for training purposes); Team Building Activities; Debates; Interactive Games and Student Presentations. At the end of the course students are required to prepare and deliver their own presentations to class settings in a relevant local setting such as a high school or local hospital or clinic. Although limited, this provides a real life situation in which students can be evaluated and given feedback.

A trial run of the course was held at the BIKASH Training Centre in Pokhara, Nepal, from the 4th till the 16th of February this year. The course was received enthusiastically with positive feedback from all participants in the course. The most frequent comment from participants was that they felt what had been learned was very applicable to their own areas of work and they were looking forward to implementing the learning in their own projects.

Due to the success of this course, and the awareness that the problems faced by people working in Nepal is widespread and a perceived need in many areas of Health Promotion, I thought you may be interested in this course for your own organisation.
